A girl walks slowly, hesitantly down a path, people lining both sides as far as the eye could see. She is blindfolded, and her arms are out, vainly trying to feel her way. The people push at her, trip her, trying to hinder her and hurt her. They injured her, both physically and mentally, jeering and throwing insults at her, spitting on her. She ignored it as best she could, as she knew she could just brush it off and move on. She could bear it fairly well, but what really pierced her heart was that she recognized many of the hands that pushed her, some were even very familiar.
She realized some of those hands were her friends' hands. The people she was supposed to trust. Not only that, but her family was among them, among her enemies, pushing and tripping and luring her away. They teased her too, hurt her, insulted her.
They forsook her, and happily, it seemed. That was what made her cry, the blindfold soaking up her tears greedily. Alone. She was all alone, without a single person by her side, not one. Nobody to help her up when she fell, no one to comfort her and encourage her to keep on going.
Where did their loyalty go? Their love, their promises? They lied and betrayed her.
No matter. She could support herself. Break away from them all, and live her life alone. She was independent. She could do it. She would live far, far away, in a place free of their poison, secluded from the rest of the human world.
She decisively stopped, standing with her feet apart to resist their pushing. She shook the hands off her and ripped the blindfold off, throwing it away. All of a sudden she had wings, wings that burned with pain as hands tore at them, pulling feathers out. They scratched at her arms and legs, pulling at her clothes, trying to hold her down. She fought them, and screamed, a sharp sound that pierced their ears, even as they covered them with their hands. Seeng them distracted, the girl took the opportunity and immediately flapped her wings in a powerful downstroke and rose above them, free at last. Still, the pain of knowing who was down there would haunt her forever.

But I left the blindfold on
Sat down and watched time pass
Refused to accept the truth
Until cloth turned to glass
